History

Tynecastle amateur football club take our roots from the Anderson McMillan club in Tynecastle Street in the east end of Glasgow, we were formed in the summer of 1978.

The fledgling clubs two founding members were Bobby Bell and Bob Anderson, with the latter being the first manager of the club in the early days.

After an early spell as a Sunday league team, Tynecastle joined the Strathclyde Saturday Morning Football League in season 1978/79 – or the Civil Service League as it was known back then, and have been proud members of the league to this day.  A Glazier by trade, Bob Anderson would drive the “putty wagon” which doubled as the team bus in the early days for the new club.

Ian Bell – brother of co-founder Bobby managed the club for several seasons until the early 90’s. After a while at the helm Ian Bell made way for Billy McQueer who took over with Wullie Samson as assistant.

Apart from season 1994/95 when the club participated in the GDSML, we have always been part of the Strathclyde Saturday Morning Football League.  On our return to the Civil service league (as it was known then) we won division 2 in season 1995/96 under the stewardship of Billy McQueer.

Tynecastle underwent a name change for a couple of season in the mid-nineties when we adopted our sponsor of the times name to become Tynecastle NCS. The club played in several places throughout the years with Greenfield, St John’s, Cranhill School, Garthmlock School, Mount Ellen and Westwood making up some of the places the club would call “home”.

We have enjoyed a healthy rivalry throughout our existence with some excellent sides in the SSMFL and over the years the league itself has grown from strength to strength.

The club went on to cement our position in the top division after that second division win. However, it wasn’t until May 2004, twenty six years after we were formed that ex-goalie turned gaffer Joe Amato led the club to the Strathclyde cup final – a first in our history. Unfortunately we lost the tie at the hands of Greenhills Dynamo, the match was played at Provanmill Park, the East Kilbride club ran out 5-2 winners in what was a very disappointing day for the club.

Summer 2005 brought a close brush with extinction but we rallied again and under new management Tynecastle headed for Guys Meadow on May 13th 2006 to face Shawbridge in another Strathclyde cup final. This time an Early Michael Canon goal was cancelled out in the second period before a last minute winner by striker David Critchley secured Tynecastle victory in our second final. We had defeated a good Shawbrigde side by a slender 2-1 scoreline to win our first trophy in over a decade.

The following few seasons saw Tynecastle try to build on this success and strengthen the squad over time. In season 2008/09 We finally secured our first Premier division title after thirty years of trying. The league title was clinched on Wednesday May 20th 2009 with a 4-0 win over Clydebank United.

The following season we finished as runners-up to a very strong Greenhills Dynamo side. Tynecastle came back strong in season 2010/11, again with many last minute winning goals, we secured our second Premier title with a 4-0 win over Victoria Park at home on Saturday June 4th 2011. During this time we had went on an unbeaten league run stretching from October 2009 – March 2011.

Tynecastle AFC are proud of our status as the longest serving club in the SSMFL top division. Hailing from the east end of Glasgow club the club have forged good links with our local community over the years. We are sponsored by several local businesses and this with other local support has been welcomed by the club. Our home games are currently played at Lochend CHS in Easterhouse.
